Garnbret is the new Boulder World Champion!

Today the first finals in Bouldering went down. Janja Garnbret (SLO) emerged as the winner of the round. Silver went to the Japanese Akiyo Noguchi. Stasa Gejo from Serbia took bronze. Janja Garnbret wrote history today: she is the first woman to have been awarded gold in two World Championship disciplines.

In front of 5000 spectators the 6 finalists struggled with extremely challenging boulder problems. However, this did not affect the atmosphere in the almost sold out Olympiaworld. Janja Garnbret, who came in second best after Jessica Pilz in Lead, won her first World Championships title in Bouldering. For this achievement, the phenom from Slovenia only needed two tops and three zones. “This title means so much to me. I was disappointed after the Lead competition. I worked towards the World Championships the entire year and now I am full of joy, that my efforts have paid off in Bouldering!”, said the Lead World Champion from 2016 after the finals.

Akiyo Noguchi got the silver medal. It’s the fourth World Championship medal in the career of the Japanese legend. European champion Stasa Gejo from Serbia kept pace with Garnbret until the end but unfortunately couldn’t give her all on the last boulder due to skin problems. In the end she came in on the 3rd place.

4th place went to Jessica Pilz, who will go into the Combined final on 2nd place.
World cup winner of 2018 Miho Nonaka (JPN) didn't have a great day, probably due to injury. She had to settle for 5th place. Defending champion Petra Klingler (SUI) came in 6th.
